Getting started

What does Griz actually do?

Griz reads the conversation you're in and generates three AI-written reply suggestions in a tone you pick (Flirty, Funny, Deep, Casual, or Witty). You can use it three ways:

  • In any app — switch to the Griz keyboard inside Hinge, Tinder, Bumble, Messages, or any text field, and tap Generate.
  • Inside iMessage — open Griz from the iMessage app drawer, pick a screenshot of a conversation, and insert a reply with one tap.
  • In the Griz app — drop a screenshot, pick a tone, pick a reply. Good for conversations you're not on your phone for.
How do I enable the Griz keyboard?

After installing Griz, open iOS Settings → General → Keyboard → Keyboards → Add New Keyboard and pick Griz. Then tap Griz in the list and turn on Allow Full Access.

Full Access is required because iOS blocks any network request from a keyboard that doesn't have it — which means the AI can't see the conversation or generate a reply without it. Griz only reads the text near your cursor when you tap Generate. We don't log keystrokes.

How do I use the iMessage extension?

In any iMessage conversation, tap the + next to the text field → More → tap the Griz icon. Then either use the last screenshot you took or pick one from your library. Griz reads it, shows three drafts, and tapping a draft inserts it into the iMessage text field — no copy-paste.

Why does Griz need Photos access?

So you can pick a chat screenshot and, optionally, so the home screen of the Griz app can show "Use the screenshot you just took" as a shortcut. We never browse, index, or upload anything until you explicitly tap Generate on a specific image. Full details are in our Privacy Policy.

Subscriptions & billing

What do I get free? What's paid?

Free tier: 3 AI generations per day, across the keyboard, iMessage extension, and main app combined. Resets every 24 hours.

Paid: Unlimited generations, all tones, and any premium features we add going forward. Pricing and plans are shown in the app before purchase.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Subscriptions are billed through the App Store, so you manage them in iOS Settings:

  1. Open iOS Settings and tap your name at the top.
  2. Tap Subscriptions.
  3. Find Griz in the list and tap Cancel Subscription.

You'll keep access until the end of your current billing period. We can't cancel or refund subscriptions on our end — Apple handles that. Request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com.

How do I restore a purchase on a new phone?

Open Griz → Settings → Restore Purchases. Make sure you're signed into the same Apple ID you used to subscribe. Your subscription will reconnect automatically.

Can I try Griz before paying?

Yes. Every new user gets 3 free generations per day for as long as they keep the app — no card required. Some plans also include an additional free trial period; the trial length is displayed on the paywall before you commit.

Privacy & safety

Do you store my screenshots or messages?

No. Screenshots and text you submit pass through our server just long enough to call the AI model, and are then discarded. They are not written to disk and are not logged.

On your device, the Griz app saves your generation history so you can refer back to it. You can delete individual conversations from the Messages tab, or remove all of it by deleting the app.

Will my data be used to train AI models?

No. We use Anthropic's commercial API, under which API content is not used to train Anthropic's models. We don't train any model of our own on user data either.

Does the Griz keyboard log my keystrokes?

No. The Griz keyboard only reads the text around your cursor — up to 500 characters before and after — and only at the moment you tap Generate. It doesn't log what you type, it doesn't read passwords or secure fields (iOS blocks that anyway), and it doesn't send anything in the background.

Is Griz safe to use on my regular keyboard or should I switch?

Griz is an additional keyboard you can switch to with the globe icon. Your default keyboard stays installed. When you're in a sensitive field — like a password manager — iOS automatically switches away from third-party keyboards regardless. Use Griz when you want AI help and the normal Apple keyboard the rest of the time.

Troubleshooting

"Couldn't reach Griz. Try again." — what do I do?

This error means the app couldn't talk to our server. Usually one of:

  • You're offline or on a spotty connection — try again on Wi-Fi.
  • Full Access is off on the Griz keyboard — enable it in Settings → General → Keyboard → Keyboards → Griz.
  • Our server is briefly down — check griz.app or email us if it lasts more than a few minutes.
The iMessage extension shows a blank screen.

Swipe the iMessage app drawer closed and reopen it, or fully quit Messages and re-launch. If it persists after a device restart, please email us with your iOS version and iPhone model — we're actively tracking this.

I hit the daily limit. When does it reset?

At 00:00 UTC each day. The Griz app shows your current usage on the home screen. If you want unlimited replies, any paid plan removes the cap.

The AI's suggestions don't sound like me.

Try a different tone — Flirty, Funny, Deep, Casual, and Witty each pull the style in a different direction. Also remember: Griz is a drafting tool. Edit before sending. The best use is as a springboard: take the suggestion that's closest to what you'd say, tweak the phrasing to sound like you, hit send.

How do I delete my data?

Because Griz doesn't have user accounts, everything tied to you lives either on your device or as an anonymous device UUID that resets daily. To clear everything:

  1. Delete the Griz app (removes the device UUID, local history, settings).
  2. Optionally cancel your subscription in App Store settings.

If you want us to manually purge the device UUID from our quota cache, email us with the UUID shown in the app's Settings screen.
